Why Wilmington again?
Yep, we are heading back to Wilmington, NC, for our trip in 2020. This would be our 4th trip to Wilmington. Why? Perhaps you remember Hurricane Florence? That would be the devastating hurricane that almost made Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach its target for coming on shore.
While we were in Wilmington last year, we asked our WARM team how bad was it. Picture going to the store and bare shelves because trucks can't bring goods to restock. Picture trees down on every road you drive on. Picture blue/black tarps on roofs a year later. The stories just kept going.
WARM anticipates they will have work from Hurricane Florence for 3-5 years. They no longer are planning IF a hurricane is coming. They are better preparing for WHEN the next hurricane is coming.
The main project for 2019 was building a 50+ foot ramp for a couple who lost their roof and their front porch as part of Hurricane Florence. A year later and they still had not roof and no front steps/porch into their house. On our second day there, we were well on our way to having the ramp completed. During lunch, the homeowner came out to check out the progress. She came down the steps, went up the steps, came down the steps, went up the steps, came down the steps and broke into tears.
It didn't take much for us to realize God is calling us back to Wilmington.
2020 has some history in it. This will be our 20th year of traveling to share what God has called us to be, His servants.
