In addition to the annual mission trip, the St Mark's Mission Team does local mission projects. Over the years, team members have done work at parishioners' homes through landscaping, painting, moving parishioners from their homes to another location and installing fencing. In addition, the team has done landscaping projects at Kindred Place in Annville, the Lebanon Valley Home and the Lebanon Rescue Mission. We have also done work at Stoever's Park and Coleman's Park.
The mission team did a beautification project at the Lebanon Valley Home by planting shrubs, perennials and flowers in the courtyard for residents to enjoy. In 2017, team members started a "Grill Night" where they go to the Lebanon Rescue Mission and grill whatever Miss Jenny wants for that particular night. That night has gone over well. It was put on hold during the pandemic, but plans are in the works for a 2023 return.
In 2018, Grill Night was taken to the next level. At the time we were grilling, Lebanon's first responders were evacuating Willows Senior Apartments from a three-alarm fire. Pastor Dave Jones found out the residents were evacuated to the Salvation Army. He asked how we could help. That night, our crew from below joined with the Lebanon Rescue Mission to provide the residents a supper of burgers and sausages. The picture of Ken and Mark relaxing below was before we found out we were doing double duty. They were a tad busy after that.
Mission is a key component of what we as Christians are called to do and it is a key component at life at St Mark's.
